Town and stone

Telč - The Town and Stone is a new project (2019) which offers the visitor of the UNESCO-listed town of Telč an unconventional view of the town's architecture in connection with the processing of local stone - granite or granite - across centuries and building styles. At the fifteen stops leading to the city center the visitor has the opportunity to get to know geology in practice and think about technical, architectural and historical contexts. Inquisitive questions complement and diversify individual stops.
Through the individual stops the visitor is guided to connect the context. We have created conditions for the development of vibrant tourism and the development of geotourism with a focus on individual architectural elements in the center of Telč. In an entertaining, attractive and cultural way we want to educate visitors and support a modern, sustainable and friendly form of tourism with a new range of services.
When the newcomer looks around the Telč square at first sight he sees beautifully decorated colorful Baroque and Renaissance facades of town houses. However building styles are mixed here from Romanesque to Baroque. There is also the influence of the Classicist period from the turn of the 18th - 19th century. However granite has been used as a building stone in Telč for centuries so you will not find a building in the square that is not at least partially made of granite. In other cities in the Czech Republic the use of granite is far from wide.
Thanks to the stonemason's tradition, unspoiled nature, rich culture and history the Vysočina Geopark a 205 km2 large area located northwest of Telč was registered in 2017 in the Network of National Geoparks of the Czech Republic. At present there are nine territories awarded this certificate in the Czech Republic. Although geoparks build on geology and its understandable and attractive approach to ordinary people they are not just about geology. In geoparks it strives to protect natural and cultural values, cultivate and deepen man's relationship with nature and the region environmental education and the development of sustainable tourism.
Geopark Vysočina
As part of the project a new walking route "Telč - Město a kámen" was created which has not yet been presented in Telč.
A guide to the individual stops in the city center in three language versions was created for the walking route "Telč - Město a kámen" which gave the city another interesting opportunity to walk around the city. We have expanded and supplemented the offer of existing walking routes: Telč - Town and History, Telč - Town and Water, Telč - Old Town, Lipky, With the White Lady in Telč and its surroundings.
