Municipal Gallery „Firemen's House“
One of the oldest photograhies with the square in Telč took in a half of the 19th century on places of current house no. 122 shows the Gothic gate with a Renaisance gable, which closed entrance into present street „At the Butcher's Shops“, in which were in a count of 26 in two lines (13 in each line) and the masters of butcher's guild used to cut and sell the meat – and by themselves – because they weren't allowed to sell it on a different place in Telč than here. In the beginning of the 60s did everything change and the butchers could cut the meat at their homes.
Abandoned butcher's shops were demolished by then German council in 1870 and were replaced by „firemen's house“ for new-established volunteer fire company. The building has looked like today when it returned to his original appearance – we remember it as building with two large gateways from the year 1944 adapted to modern engine engineering.

The place of the present-day gallery used to be occupied by a vaulted Gothic gate from the 17th century with a Renaissance gable. This gate was the entrance to butcher's shop. A fire in 1871 was a stimulus to establish a fire brigade, to pull down the butchers' shop and a build a fire house. The Firemen´s House is the newest house in the square of Telč.
In 1944 two large gateways were made in the wall to adapt the little romanticist building to new technology, which completely changed the architectural charakter of the building until its recontruction in 2004. The project that returned the building its original appearance from 1871 was designed by academic architect Doc. Václav Girsa. The old boards used for the wooden floor of the gallery were brought here from the Castle of Kost in West Bohemia. The hanging lighting device from cast-iron suggests the technical construction from the 2nd half of the 19th century, and the signboard of the gallery was also made in this spirit.
The exhibition programme of the gallery strives to be a worthy complement of the monuments of architecture in the historical town centre. The Municipal Gallery organises about five two-month solo exhibitions a year and carefully chooses the exhibiting artists and works.
