Folklorní soubor Podjavořičan

image - Podjavořičan

An amateur folklore dance group making use of the rich folklore heritage (songs and dances) of the Moravian side of the local mountain region. The folklore group was founded in 1989 and it can boast of dozens of performances not only in the Czech Republic, but also in Sweden, Poland, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Switzerland and Turkey.

  • Founded in 1989, Podjavořičan aims at preserving the local folk culture tradition and at creating a positive approach of the young people to this culture, a feeling of unity with the region, as well as enlivening the cultural ambiance of the town of Telč.
  • Some of the shows organized by the folklore group have already a strong tradition, such as the International Folklore Festival “European Meetings of Folk Ensembles in Telč” hosting folklore groups from all over the continent (especially Slovak, German, Scottish and many others), but also from overseas such as from Mexico or Zimbabwe. The Festival is held bi-annually.
  • An integral feature of the typical activities of Podjavořičan is the “Mountaineers’ Ball”, a carnival march through the town, an Easter horse ride, the traditional annual fair with a rich cultural programme, and, of course, many other activities. Podjavořičan is also invited to many folklore shows of Telč – e.g. “The Mountain Land Dances and Sings” festival in Světlá nad Sázavou, or the “Cultural Summer” in Jihlava.
  • The highest trophy so far won by Podjavořičan is the “Golden Karagöz” received for the best scene design at the international folkore festival in Bursa, in Turkey.
